Philosophy

T he Dance Edge is dedicated to providing quality dance education to all participants. If you are looking for one class a week or for a highly intensive dance experience, we are determined to facilitate every dancers dream with the same quality of education. The Dance Edge prides itself on knowing what to teach, how to teach it, and most importantly when to teach it. The instruction of proper technique is instilled in our philosophy and is a fundamental component of our dance curriculum. The staff at The Dance Edge takes pride in providing a dance education that is going to help prevent injuries and ensure your dancer is able to have a long and healthy dance experience.

At The Dance Edge we are thrilled to be able to offer both recreational and competitive dance programming with optional examinations to our recreational students. Our classes follow accredited and renowned dance syllabi and are instructed under the direction of a fully qualified and experienced staff. It is of the most importance to The Dance Edge and its instructors to develop healthy and active bodies while encouraging every student to explore their creativity, artistry, and personal experience in their dance education.

Artistic Director Bio

Stephanie is a proud dance educator who has been providing quality dance training and education for well over a decade. She is a graduate of the York University BFA Honors Dance program specializing in Pedagogy and Movement Analysis and an acceptant of the National Ballet School of Canada’s Teacher Training Program. Stephanie is trained extensively in Ballet, Jazz, Tap, Acrobatics, Modern, Contemporary, Lyrical, Musical Theatre, Fosse Jazz, and Hip Hop. She is a well respected professional teacher holding qualifications with the Associated Dance Arts for Professional Teachers (ADAPT), Acrobatic Arts, Cecchetti Society of Canada (CSC), the Limón Modern Technique, Acro Dance Association (formerly Acrobatique), The British Association of Teacher’s of Dancing (BATD), Progressing Ballet Technique (PBT), Sugarfoot Therapy, Healthy Dancer Canada (HDC), High Five Quality at Play: Healthy Child Development, and the Professional Adjudicators Alliance (PAA), SOTT Pilates, Total Barre, and Barreworks Certified.

Stephanie is a true believer that continued education only enhances her ability to provide quality dance education and this is why she also utilizes her tools as a certified barre fitness instructor by Total Barre and Barreworks, and her training in STOTT Pilates and Sugarfoot Therapy to enhance the quality of training for her students. Stephanie has performed professionally across Ontario and has been part of the competitive dance industry throughout Canada and the United States. Some performances include the Motionball Charity Gala for the Special Olympics, The Alzheimer’s Society Walk for Memories at Roy Thompson Hall, “The Best of Broadway in Concert” tour, Upstaging Cancer, Mayor’s Galas throughout the GTA, events for the Canadian Cancer Society (Relay for Life), JB Productions – York University, Real Music Media – “Rebel Rebel” Music Video, and various shows with Steppin’ Out Theatrical Productions (The Pajama Game, Cabaret). She has worked with TD Canada Trust choreographing pieces for their Gala’s and Flashmob choreography for their company events. She also works within the school board providing dance workshops and unit lessons to their students.

 

Stephanie’s true passion is for dance education. Her students have achieved top honours in their examinations and performances; her students have gone on to dance professionally at both post secondary institutions and pre-professional study programs across Canada and the United States (York University, Ryerson University, Julliard Summer School, and The National Ballet School of Canada). Her work has received many choreography and special awards, making her a respected member of the dance community. Stephanie has had the fortunate opportunity to train and work closely with dance artists and educators from all over Canada and the United States, some of which include John Ottman (National Ballet of Canada), Elisabeth Leyds-Holms (National Ballet School of Canada), Patrick Parson (Ballet Creole), Helen Jones (Toronto Dance Theatre), and Donna Krasnow (York University and The Limón Institute NYC).

 

Stephanie believes it is a true gift and responsibility to be able to provide dance education to all dancers she is fortunate to educate and she works tirelessly to provide the best she can for everyone she is fortunate enough to instruct.
