Class Descriptions

CLASS PLACEMENT IS DETERMINED BY YOUR DANCER’S AGE AS OF JULY 1st.
PRE-DANCE PROGRAM INFORMATION IS LISTED BELOW.

Twinkle Stars: Ages 3 – 4 years.
The Twinkle Toes class has been created for the purpose of providing the introduction to the movements of ballet and acrobatics. This is a fun-filled class where the dancers are encouraged to explore dance and acrobatics while developing their musicality, coordination, rhythm, and explore their own creativity. The class is focused around developing the dancers strength, limbering, and balancing. 

Combo 1 & Combo 2: 
Specially designed classes to allow dancers the opportunity to explore more than one style of dance in one trip to the dance studio!

Combo 1: Ages 4.5 – 5 years.
Two times the fun! This class is a fantastic way to introduce your dancer to ballet, jazz, and tap all in one class! Dancers will learn all three genres of dance focusing on rhythm, patters, musicality, and movement. These dancers will perform 2 routine at the year-end recital (using one costume).

Combo 2: Ages 5.5 – 6 years.
Three’s a charm! Learn ballet, jazz, and tap all in one class! This class is designed for dancers to develop a wide range of dance education to help continue to develop and explore their rhythm, patterns, musicality, and movement. The dancers will perform 2 routines in the year-end recital (using one costume).

Ballet: Ages 7 years plus. 
Ballet is the foundation of all types of dancing. It is a great place to start if you and your dancer are unsure of what type of genre to participate in. There is a strong focus on proper technique, body alignment, terminology, and both traditional and current ballet techniques. Ballet is a beautiful and challenging form of dance that develops and enhances technique, poise, grace, and strength.

Jazz: Ages 7 years plus. 
This energetic and upbeat class teaches the fundamentals of jazz technique, focused on movement in the center and across the floor training. Dancing to popular, age appropriate music, while learning kicks, jumps, turns, and flexibility. Dancers will be placed accordingly by age and individual ability.

Tap: Ages 7 years plus. 
Making music with your feet! This class is full of energy helping to improve rhythm, musicality, footwork, and coordination. Dancers will participate in movement across the floor and in the centre. Placement is based off of both the dancers age and their ability.

Acrobatics: Ages 4 years plus. 
This class is a combination of dance and gymnastics. Dancers will combine jazz and acrobatics together to learn different tricks, balancing positions, tumbling, and contortion skills. There is a large emphasis on flexibility, strength, and control. Dancers will be placed based off of their individual needs, abilities, and ages. The safety of you dancer is the most important factor when deciding placement.

Lyrical and Contemporary: Ages 7 years plus. 
This class is a combination of ballet and jazz, utilizing the strength from ballet combined with the expression of jazz to help dancers learn to interpret and express feeling and tell a meaningful story through movement.

Musical Theatre: Ages 7 years plus. 
A great combination of theatre, dance, and drama! If your child loves dramatic play this is the class for them! Musical theatre classes are all about telling a story through your dancing, facial expression, and body language. This is a class that is LOADED with fun.

Hip Hop: Ages 4.5 years plus. 
This popular form of dance is commonly seen on T.V. and in music videos. Your dancer will learn the coolest and most popular moves in a fun and energetic class. This class is great for any age and skill set. Hip Hop class helps your dancer to improve their personal movement style, fitness level, and confidence! Funky Feet Hip Hop is a short and sweet program for dancers 4.5 – 6 years. 

Soar Program – Dance For Additional Needs: Ages 4 years plus.
The Dance Edge is thrilled to be able to provide programming for dancers with additional needs, limited range of motion, and limited motor development. This classes will focus on a variety of concepts (patterning, rhythm, coordination) while enjoying movement and music together and working at the dancers own pace.  

Pre-Dance

A specially designed program for dancers walking – 3 years old. Classes options are available both during the day, early afternoon, and weekends. 

Dance With Me (Walking – 2 years): This class is a parent guided class. 
This class is designed for parent and tot to move and groove together! Creative movement is explored with the use of props, music, and rhythm exercises. You and your dancer will explore the introductory movements of dance together while connecting with other parents and little ones during class time. This class is only offered in 6-week or 8-week sessions.  

Mini Movers (18 Months – 3 years): This class is an independent class.
Dancers will be introduced to the art of dance and acrobatics through creative movement and music. They will learn basic dance steps while exploring their imagination and movement together. The focus is on developing body awareness, form, and strength in the younger dancer. The class is structured to provide repetition in order to help the dancers feel a sense of comfort each week, allowing them to grow musically, improve their coordination, balancing, and motor development. Props are used to encourage play while exploring concepts and foundations of dance and acrobatics. Most importantly this class is about having fun while moving organically and using their interests to learn movement.

RECREATIONAL PROGRAM

Our focus in the recreational program at The Dance Edge is providing high-quality dance instruction in a fun and supportive environment. This program is centered on developing a wide range of dance principles while learning the importance of discipline, creativity, and building teamwork skills. Dancers will be guided through progressive skill development and training following the teachings of a fully qualified and experience staff. It is our goal is to ensure students are having fun while realizing their inner potential and achieving their personal best. The recreational program is available for dancers 18 months – Adult.

COMPETITIVE PROGRAM

The competitive program at The Dance Edge is developed for the serious and committed dancer. Students who are part of the competitive program will participate in extensive training in all areas of dance. Members of the competitive team are challenged to work at their fullest potential in an encouraging atmosphere. Students are expected to demonstrate strong teamwork skills and good sportsmanship while increasing their self-esteem and gaining confidence. The competitive team is centered on understanding the value of teamwork and to build trust and lasting relationships with fellow teammates. Following the teachings and examples of our experienced and qualified staff, competitive members can expect to engage in a demanding training regime that will focus on developing a healthy dancing body, performance skills, and proper technique in a supportive, challenging, and fun atmosphere. Each dancers individual needs, talents, and potential is recognized and developed to its greatest capacity.

Part-Time Program:
Designed for the introductory competitive student (5-7 years) and the high school students who wish to dance with a maximum of 5 hours per week. Groups are mandatory and solo, duet, trios are by invitation only.

Full-Time Competitive:
Designed for the serious and driven dancer (8 years +) who is self-motivated, thrives on challenge, sefl-disciplined, and understands their role on the team. The full-time competitive team has an intensive commitment of between 12 – 20 hours per week. Groups are mandatory and solo, duet, trios are by invitation only.
